In a press conference to announce his appointment as head coach of the U.S. Men's Basketball Team, Spoelstra expressed his hope that the best U.S. players will join the national team for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Basketball has long been a global sport, with players and teams from all over the world, and it's fair to say that the competition on the court has never been more intense," Spoelstra said. And it should be, because it's a wonderful sport and competition is what it's all about."

"The 2028 Olympic cycle has already started and the Games will be held here. We haven't talked about who will be playing then, there is still time, but we do have to do something now. I'd like to call out that now is the time for the best U.S. players to raise their hands and say they want to play in the Olympics, and you should jump at the chance to take on the challenge that is the beauty of the sport."
