King James' retirement conditions revealed: Lakers win title or join Bryce on stage
Release time: 2025-09-17 PE Score
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will become the first unrestricted free agent since 2018 next offseason. The four-time MVP and four-time Finals MVP will be 41 years old by then, and some believe he could retire after the 2025-26 season. But an NBA executive told Lakers Daily News that the only thing that could prompt James to retire after next year's season is a Lakers championship. "Unless the Lakers win a title next year, LeBron will play one to two more seasons. Bryce (James' son) is eligible for the 2026 draft and there are rumors that LeBron wants to play with his son. Barring a precipitous drop in form or a Lakers championship, I think LeBron will play through the 2026-27 season."
