Lions veteran Chen Yung-chi commented on Lin An-ke and Hsu Jo-hsi's consecutive moves to Japan's professional baseball league, stating that this new generation of players "has pioneered another path for overseas careers." Unlike the previous model of players leaving immediately after high school graduation, the latest trend involves using the CPBL as a starting point, proving their worth through performance before pursuing higher challenges.
Chen Yong-ji noted that players like Gu Lin Ruiyang, who went to Japan last year, and Lin An-ke and Hsu Jue-hsi, who joined the Seibu Lions and SoftBank Hawks this year, all demonstrate the upward mobility available to CPBL players. "First, establish yourself in the CPBL. Your hard work will be recognized." He believes this path is now more mature and competitive than before.
Having signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2004, he shared his own experience, advising overseas players to prioritize language skills alongside athleticism. "No matter your position, communication is key. English—and Japanese for the future—are mandatory courses." He stressed that players must not only excel on the field but also "be book smart" to establish themselves overseas.
