Deni Avdija mentioned Hayson Young in his press conference after the Trailblazers' 111-118 home loss to the Warriors in the NBA preseason:

"I asked Avdija about his blocking matchup with Hansen: I've been talking to Hansen and Clingan, and I want them to be able to cover Gortat because I'm used to getting the defender behind me. I love this kid, and I used to be just like him, coming from a different country and not being fluent in English, so I'm trying to give him a little bit more of a helping hand, and even learn a little bit of his language, and tell him in Chinese to move to the right, and then I'll tell him in Chinese to move to the right. I even learned a little bit of his language, telling him in Chinese whether to go left or right and that kind of thing."
