The San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-0 on the road to even the series at 1-1.
In the first inning, the Padres scored a run on back-to-back singles by Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Arraez, plus a sacrifice bunt by Jackson Merrill. In the top of the 5th inning, Tatis walked to load the bases, and after Arraez advanced on a groundout, Manny Machado locked in on an errant throw by Shota Imanaga, and blasted a two-run double to left field to extend the lead.
The Padres pitching staff was solid, with starter Dylan Cease pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, followed by Morejon, Miller and Suarez, as the Cubs managed just four hits in the game, with Makoto Suzuki hitting the lone long ball.
The 32-year-old Japanese left-hander, Shota Imaga, made his MLB postseason debut, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings of relief, striking out three and walking one, in a no-decision.
In Game 3, the Padres will roll out 39-year-old D'Arcy, and the Cubs starter has yet to be announced.
