Phillies beat Dodgers in extender, first division title of the season

Release time: 2025-09-16 PE Score

The Phillies went on the road to face the Dodgers, and the two teams played playoff caliber baseball. The Dodgers first sent out fake starter Banda, but Schwarber hit his 53rd bomb of the season. The Dodgers tied the game in the third inning and then took the lead in the fifth on a Muncy home run, while true starter Sheehan took over and pitched 5.2 hitless innings until he was replaced in the top of the seventh inning, but bullpen Dreyer was hit by back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Betts came back to tie the game with a single, but the Phillies took the lead in the eighth inning with a single by Harper. In the bottom of the ninth, the Dodgers had the last chance to tie the game with a single by the Pages against finisher Duran. Philadelphia took a one-run lead in the 10th inning, and in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Dodgers loaded the bases with one out, but couldn't get anything back. Philadelphia won the NL East 6-5 with a one-run victory over the Dodgers, becoming the first team to win the division this season.
