In a recent interview, Dominic Wilkins, the "Essence of Human Cinema", said that he hopes the younger generation of players will give respect to their seniors and not use them as targets just to prove their point.
Wilkins said: "I appreciate a lot of young players, also like to watch their games, such as Wen Banjama, Alexander, Brunson. These lads are superb and I love seeing these rising stars."
"One thing to emphasize about me as a person: I always give other people the praise they deserve, but I wish these youngsters would stop using us guys as targets to prove their point. Being part of history is the most rewarding because we all grow up aspiring to be like someone who came before us. That's why we deserve respect."
"The idea that the current players can finish off the older players is just ridiculous. They talk as if all of us guys are playing for fun. I appreciate every era and it's the respect and love of the game that made us who we are. When I hear 'the league wasn't that good at basketball back then', I just think that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. If you didn't live through that era and play in that era, you can't make that comment."
"It's really outrageous and sometimes I'm embarrassed for them, what the hell have they watched to say something like that? A lot of the people who say that are young people, they don't know anything. It's about respect and honoring those who came before you. When the disrespectful comments get too much, I feel offended. Look, it's your time now, our time has passed, let's honor each other's accomplishments."
