FIBA Official Preview: Turkey, Germany to decide by front line

Release time: 2025-09-14 PE Score

Turkey and Germany are about to start the final battle for the European Championships title, and before the game, FIBA officials gave a preview of the final:

For Turkey, it's a chance to write history, while Germany strives to become a double World Cup and European Champion.

Turkey are just 40 minutes away from making new history, having never won a title in the 90 years since they reached the podium just once, when they were runners-up on home soil in 2001. Ataman's vengeful side are poised to etch their name into the annals of Turkish basketball history, undefeated in the tournament and having beaten Serbia and Greece in the process, they have undoubtedly put in some of the most impressive performances of the tournament.

A well-oiled Germany is also currently on a winning streak, and they are the team with the most firepower in the tournament, having excelled throughout the European Championships, but games against Slovenia and Finland have proved to be just as testing. Although Germany are the favorites to win the tournament, they have only finished in the top three of the European Championships three times before.

Key matchups

Yes, there's Schenking on one side and Schroeder on the other, but it's the all-around front line that's key in today's basketball game. Osman and Wagner will face off at forward, and whoever wins this matchup will have a better chance of helping his team win the title.

X-Factor.

Offense is the focus of this game, with Germany leading the way averaging 101.4 points per game and Turkey coming in third. But Ataman's team is the most accurate three-point shooter at the European Championships, hitting 44.7 percent of its threes, while Germany is second at 39.0 percent.
